In the Black Midwinter Day One: Last July, Rain Children, The Black Riders Cult, Hands of Industry, AMereKat

I’ve not done many photos recently, but Derek of Join The Night Shift asked me to step in and take some shots of the first day of his new Sheffield festival; In The Black Midwinter. Being as I was playing on both Saturday and Sunday, this lead to quite a busy weekend!

I struggled a bit to get into the swing of it at the start, losing my first few shots of AMereKat because I hadn’t realised that autofocus was disabled on the lens… doh, but it started flowing later on. I made a special effort to use my wider, slower lens to try and avoid the “portrait style” stuff I end up doing all the time, and I’m quite happy with how some of them came out.

A lot of these shots have been heavily modified with filters. This is mostly to salvage something nice from very dark, or very over saturated images from the LED lights. Bring back proper lighting I say. Make those performers sweat!
